The problem
Every bespoke vehicle arrives as a dense specification pack. Pricing it meant estimators cross-referencing a cost matrix, a standards document and years of older quote sheets by hand: around four hours per vehicle, with rules that lived mostly in people's heads.
The approach
- Specification import that reads the order reference automatically and then locks it, so a job can never drift onto the wrong order.
- A rules engine encoding the cost matrix and per-part standards: what is included, what is chargeable, and which parts cannot exist without their parent assembly.
- Certainty-scored proposals, so estimators review the exceptions rather than every line.
- Part matching that learns renumbered part numbers and falls back to descriptions when the customer changes them.
- Branded PDF quotes generated straight from the approved job.
The outcome
- Quote time per vehicle cut from around four hours to thirty minutes.
- The pricing specification is now executable and versioned, not tribal knowledge.
- Option prices feed directly into programme invoicing, so invoices match quotes by construction.
What they say
Quoting bespoke options on a hypercar programme took the best part of a day per car and depended on one or two people knowing where every price lived. Mike built a tool that does it in half an hour. It was validated line by line against a real quote before anyone trusted it, and the pricing rules now live in the system rather than in people's heads.
